How craps odds work

TAKING ODDS Taking Odds is a bet that is placed in conjunction with a Pass Line, Don’t Pass Line, Come or Don’t Come bet. If one of those bets has been placed and a point is established on the next roll, an Odds bet can be placed. Placing an Odds bet is the best bet on the Craps table because the House Advantage is 0%. Dec 10,  · Some casinos step up the maximum Odds depending on the point number. For example, “x Odds,” usually means you can bet 3x Odds on the 4 or 10, 4x Odds on the 5 or 9, and 5x Odds on the 6 or 8. Let’s look at a simple scenario to see how the flat and Free Odds bets work together. Craps requires a larger bankroll than most casino games. At a table with $5 minimum bets in a casino offering double odds, a player making the best percentage wagers at any given time will have $5 on the Pass line backed with $10 in odds, and perhaps two Come bets with odds in the same amounts.

History states that this game was actually found and played in casinos in Yugoslavia, the UK and the Bahamas. Put betting may give a larger house edge over place betting unless the casino offers high odds. The theory is that given exactly the same throw from exactly the same starting configuration, the dice will tumble in the same way and therefore show the same or similar values every time. In Las Vegas, generally odds bets are required to be the table minimum. Once taken down or reduced, however, the don't pass bet may not be restored or increased. Players must bet against each other by covering or fading each other's bets for the game to be played.

How Craps Works

The craps payout chart below shows various payout statistics such as what kind of craps bets, true odds, payout odds and the total house edge after everything has been calculated through. Note that these payout odds in the chart listed below are not the same in every casino or on all craps tables. Some casinos may have different odds which perhaps may be better or worse than the odds shown in the payout chart.

That way you can see all of the odds displayed in one table and you'll be able to decide which bets are better than others. You can see why the free odds bet is such a great one and why some of the proposition bets are terrible. My advice is to study this information or at least glance at it to find good strategies. As you can see from the payout table, there are many bets that sound exotic and arcane but they really aren't that good, even though they may sound like the "secret" bets that no one knows about.

Really the only good ones are the pass line or don't pass in conjunction with the free odds bets. There are a few other decent ones as well. The trick to know is that when the house edge is a very low percentage, then the bet is a good one. Also remember the fact that the number 7 is rolled more often than any other number. The 2 and 12 snake eyes and box cars are rolled the least and have low probabilities of coming out.

If a casino had 25x odds and you bet say 5 on pass line, and the max odds of what would the house edge be on that? The pass is 1. Never down to zero, but how much better does it get. The article shows the house advantages for Pass Line only, with 1x Odds, and with 2x Odds, so you can see that the reduction is not linear.

We provide the basics for calculating house advantage in other articles and we leave it up to the reader to take it from there. You can deduce that the house advantage would be a little lower, but remember, it will never get to zero. My off-the-top-of-my-head guess is, on average, only 1 out of every craps players has and plays that kind of bankroll.

The Don't Pass bet is kind of like the opposite of the Pass Line where the shooter wins on 2 or 3, ties on 12 and loses if he rolls either a 7 or If the shooter rolls either 4,5,6,8,9,10 he establishes the point number and when playing the Don't Pass bet the hope is that the shooter will roll a 7 before he rolls his point number again.

If he rolls a 7 first the Don't Pass bet wins and if he rolls his point number first the bet is lost. The Come Bet is like the Pass line bet and it is placed after the shooter has made the Come Out roll. You place the come bet, the dice are rolled and the come bet then goes to the point number that was rolled which in effect becomes the number you are gambling on. It's an additional bet to the pass line and allows the player to cover more numbers. The Don't Come bet is the opposite of the come bet, this is placed after the come out roll and relies on the same rules as a Don't Pass bet.
